Tell us about your working life before Aspect?
I joined Aspect as a new graduate social worker. During my social work degree, I completed placements in research and at a high school as a student support officer. I also had experience as a support worker within a supported independent living environment (SIL), and as a student learning support officer. My background was largely made up of working in the youth, mental health and disability sectors.
How long have you worked with Aspect and what are some highlights?
I joined Aspect in January 2023. The induction into Aspect was a well-supported and structured process. Aspect has an incredibly supportive and positive team environment which has been very beneficial in helping me to feel settled within my role. Aspect’s leadership team go to great efforts to make themselves accessible, supporting with questions and queries as you navigate your role and the field.
What is the most rewarding part of your role as a Social Worker?
The most rewarding part of my role is building positive relationships with the people that I support, having the privilege to get to know them and their support networks and to be able to work alongside them towards their goals. You meet some incredible people within this role, and I feel that I learn from them and much as they do from me.
What’s it like working with the team at Aspect?
Aspect has a very supportive team. Although itinerate work means that you don’t see co-workers in an office, I have still felt very well supported by the Aspect team. Throughout the induction process, you are connected (virtually) with other new graduates who you can build networks with, as well as through group supervision opportunities, regional meetings and discipline specific meetings. People within the leadership team are very responsive to your needs, and also proactively reach out to check in with you.
What learning opportunities has Aspect provided you with?
Aspect has supported me to complete training to become a registered Positive Behaviour Support Practitioner. I have been presented with an immense learning opportunity to develop specialised skills within the autism sector and have developed my clinical skills through my role of delivering individual therapy.
What’s your advice for people thinking about a career with Aspect?
If you are considering a role working with Autistic individuals, Aspect is the prime organisation to be working with. You will be presented with a wealth of opportunities for skill development, you will be well supported by an incredible team and you will have the opportunity to meet incredible people.
