I wanted to check in to see how things have been at home?
Capucine (Caregiver):
I've managed to implement what she recommended and it's been amazing, especially the quiet space, as well as the noise canceling headphones.
Chloe White (Behaviour Support Practitioner):
What I found by delivering TelePBS was that it encouraged the coaching, and the capacity building of families as you're not able to just jump in and model a strategy to a family, and you have to take a step back and clearly explain or explicitly state what you want the family to do and how they can do it.
Jessica Degrassi (PBS, Active Support & Safeguarding Manager):
What it really works well, I believe is if you have a strong support network, you have regular team meetings. You regularly have everybody in the same virtual room to be able to discuss, to work through issues, to work through anything else that you're seeing in terms of the plan that you want to review, develop more, what's working, what's not working.

Using the screen share tool over video pool has been helpful to develop visuals and social stories with families in session.
By sharing the screen it means that both parties are able to contribute their ideas, to develop the resource.

The whole plan she prepared was exactly what I needed to be able to work with him and what to do if this behavior happens what to do to prevent another one to happen and the whole process was extremely helpful.

In the monitoring phase of the TelePBS service instead of getting everyone in the same room to discuss the progress of the plan and how it's going, it's really easy to set up calls online, to have those discussions and to discuss the progress yet without having everyone travel and, and made in the one place.
Dr Genevieve Johnsson (TelePBS Practice Leader and Researcher):
It also enhances the capacity building approach where the people that are on the ground are the ones implementing the strategies and supports within the positive behavior support plan and so telepractice really helps that PBS practitioner take a step back and rely on that support team and kind of encourage that support team to be able to implement those strategies. And so what we find is our PBS practitioners become really good at coaching support teams and individuals who might have behaviors of concern to implement those strategies and increase their skills and have a really good positive impact on their quality of life.
Erin Guy (Behaviour Support Practitioner):
So in situations where I haven't been able to directly model strategies, and in terms of implementing the behavior support plan. One particular example that comes to mind is that there's been a family there. So mum, dad, and the individual.
I've observed maybe a behavior or something of concern, and the parents have attempted to maybe deescalate and when appropriate, I've stepped in and modeled and coached at the same time, a strategy that they could use that might be helpful, provided an example, and then observed them have a go at that.
Capucine (Caregiver):
I got what you recommended and I said Arthur why don't you wear your headphones? And when the noise level is too high in the house which happens quite frequently, he goes in his bedroom, get them, put them on and, and he's able to settle a bit, which is a huge, huge improvement.
Erin Guy (Behaviour Support Practitioner):
So I think that coaching element and that implementation of the behavior support plan is just as effective with me being millions of miles away on a different screen, because I'm still there in the moment supporting them by coaching and talking through strategies with them.

And I got on the bus, I was probably in the green again.

In the green still, yep.

So we can also explain to, I guess, the wider community or other allied health professionals, what TelePBS is via online training, such as webinars or big meetings where we can really talk about what the service looks like and to introduce them to the fact that this is a service that we can deliver, and it's something that is just as beneficial and just as helpful to individuals and families.
