Aspect's Adult Community Support center in Heatherton, VIC has recently undergone exciting renovations to enhance our facilities and better support our participants. This year, we unveiled a state-of-the-art sensory room and a rainforest-themed quiet room, each thoughtfully designed to create soothing, inclusive spaces for Autistic individuals. We've also expanded our resources with a spacious 130m² kitchen, perfect for developing life skills and hosting social activities.
Our new sensory room, a key part of Aspect’s commitment to sensory-friendly environments, features interactive display boards, bubble tubes with fibre-optic lighting, a lighting projector, soft seating, and specially designed furnishings and flooring. This room has been crafted to meet diverse sensory needs, providing opportunities for both gentle stimulation and calming relaxation.
We’ve also upgraded our bathroom facilities, ensuring they meet high standards of accessibility and comfort for all. These updates offer a much-improved environment for both our staff and participants.
Looking ahead, we are awaiting the final Development Approval to proceed with long-anticipated improvements to our traffic management arrangements. These are expected to start in early 2025 and will include new outdoor spaces, like a deck/dining area and a sensory garden, offering participants more opportunities to engage and connect in nature.
None of these improvements would have been possible without the generosity of our major supporters and Gifts from Wills, whose funding has been instrumental in bringing these developments to life. Your generosity has made a significant impact on our community, and we’re so thankful.
