Aspect continues to strengthen its dedication to sustainability through a series of initiatives focused on reducing energy consumption and minimizing its carbon footprint across multiple campuses.
In a major step towards sustainability, Aspect recently expanded its solar energy commitment with the installation of new photovoltaic systems at Aspect Vern Barnett School, Aspect Treetop School, Aspect Central Coast School's Junior campus, Aspect Hunter School, Aspect Macarthur School and Aspect South East Sydney School’s Loftus campus.
This initiative builds on the success of three existing photovoltaic systems, which have been providing free electricity to Aspect Western Sydney School and Aspect South Coast School campuses since 2011.
These new solar installations are set to deliver significant financial and environmental benefits. The schools are projected to reduce electricity costs by $67,000 per year, which means the schools, will have $1.67 million over the 25-year lifespan of the panels to spend on improving outcomes for students. Additionally, the systems will collectively reduce carbon dioxide (C02) emissions by 335 tonnes per year, reinforcing Aspect’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint.
In addition to solar power expansion, Aspect has implemented several other energy-saving initiatives. Recent upgrades include the no-cost replacement of all electric hot water systems with energy-efficient heat pump units at Aspect Riverina School, Aspect South East Sydney School's Loftus campus, Aspect Macarthur School, Aspect Hunter School, and Aspect Central Coast School, as part of the NSW Energy Savings Scheme's $0 Hot Water Unit Upgrades program.
Aspect has also upgraded light fittings to energy-efficient LED types during refurbishment projects and as part of other stand-alone initiatives.
Looking ahead, Aspect plans to implement further energy efficiency measures. These include upgrading aged, energy-inefficient mechanical systems and equipment, exploring potential solar battery storage installations, enforcing stricter adherence to procurement policy standards for white goods energy rating standards and preparing awareness campaigns to encourage energy conservation.
