Aspect South Coast is showcasing a new look following a two-year renovation to increase much-needed capacity to support Autistic students in the Illawarra and Shoalhaven region.
The school has built an additional three classrooms, a multi-purpose hall, a sensory room and an expansive library. A further four classrooms have been fully renovated along with the playgrounds, with new fencing also built around the school.
The renovation will increase capacity for students in K-6 from 24 to 42.
Rowena Perritt, Principal, Aspect South Coast School said the new facilities have been wholeheartedly welcomed by the school and wider community.
“We are proud of our school and excited to open our doors and showcase our new-look and brand-new amenities to the community,” said Ms Perritt.
“For more than thirty-three years we have supported Autistic students and their families in the South Coast to achieve their learning goals and realise their potential, in a supportive and individualised learning environment.
“Our new learning spaces are designed specifically for Autistic students and feature defined areas, calm spaces and sensory accommodations. Thanks to the extensive additions and renovations, we are now in a position to increase enrolment numbers moving into 2024 and beyond.
“It is a privilege to provide specialist education in our region, giving families with neuro-diverse children a choice when it comes to selecting the best educational environment for their child. Aspect has a transition approach to learning which means we equip our students with the skills and capabilities required to transition into mainstream settings, whether it be a mainstream learning environment or the workforce.
“More than 3,600 people in our region are diagnosed Autistic, and we are pleased to play a role in supporting their journey,” said Ms Perritt.
