A group of students from Aspect Hunter school has joined together to form Aspect’s first rugby league team!
This team of ten students, supported by staff and families from Aspect Hunter School, participated in the National Disability Rugby League festival in December. This event is an annual rugby league gala day aimed at creating a space for people living with physical or intellectual disabilities to get involved in footy through modified games, touch, tag, or tackle. The exciting event included entertainment, music, food and of course… lots of rugby league!
The team trained together in the lead-up to the event, with sessions and participation organised by the fantastic Hunter School staff. On the day of the event the team played three games in total. The first game was played against the All Ability Sports Coaching (AASC) adult team in which team Hunter School narrowly lost 10-7. The second game was played against Kotara and narrowly lost 7-6. Hannah and Jesse Southwell from the NRLW Knights joined in for this game and the students loved it!
