Outreach Soccer Program, St Ives Soccer Club
In 2004 St Ives Soccer began a sports program aimed at children with ASD and Down syndrome, which was a tremendous success. A set of rules has been developed to provide one-on-one guidance to the participants as they play. Each player is allowed to have a chaperone on the field to provide assistance and direction. It is hoped that once familiar with play, the player will become less dependent on the chaperone until able to play independently. Similar programs are now offered by clubs at West Pymble, Gymea and West Pennant Hills.
